Imperial College invests £3.5m in Twig World

Imperial College London has invested £3.5 million in video learning company Twig World, in what has been billed as the first major Series B investment by a European university in an ed tech business.

The university joins Series A funders DC Thomson and Scottish Enterprise as well as founder Anthony Bouchier as the main shareholders in the business. 
As part of the deal, Twig will create more professional development resources for secondary school teachers of science, technology, engineering and maths.

This supports wider efforts by Imperial to promote STEM subjects throughout the UK education system. 
Twig produces educational videos, using footage from the BBC and other archives, which it sells to schools on a subscription basis. 

It claimed its products were used by over 80,000 teachers in 72 countries and that sales grew by more than 80% in 2014, the last financial year for which results are available.
Bouchier said: “We are delighted to be partnering with one of the world’s leading universities in continuing our mission to making STEM subjects relevant and engaging to all school children.

"Our production team have enjoyed our collaboration with Imperial over the past two years and are excited about extending our work together.”
