Brightspark founder sells up to launch new venture

TSL Education is now the sole owner of online tutoring platform TES Brightspark, after acquiring founder Tom Hooper's 50% stake.

The education resources firm, which publishes the Times Educational Supplement and Times Higher Education, acquired half of Brightspark in March last year. Yesterday Hooper announced that TSL had now acquired his remaining equity, to become sole owner.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Brightspark will now be integrated into TSL's TES Connect website.

Hooper will leave the company at the end of the month. He says he's planning a new venture, that'll use "blended digital and human learning" and focus on maths and numeracy.

BrightSpark is an online platform that provides India-based maths tutors for both schools and homes. Hooper founded the business in 2009.
