International House Eastern Spain Group of language schools will close after the Covid-19 pandemic hammered a final nail in its coffin, PIE News has reported.

IH Barcelona, IH Mataró, IH Sabadell, IH Tarragona and IH Terrassa are all to shut down, as are IH Zaragoza and IH Palma de Mallorca.

The group stated that its shareholders have decided to declare bankruptcy. On its website the school said: “It is heartbreaking to see the devastating impact Covid-19 has had on these much-loved schools.

“The closure of schools is due to a sustained deterioration in recent years of International House’s main lines of business, resulting from fundamental changes in the world of language teaching.

“This downward trajectory worsened, without a doubt, with the crisis caused by Covid-19. All this placed the IH schools in an unsustainable financial situation, despite all efforts made to try to reverse this situation.”

IH schools are independently owned and managed companies so no other IH-affiliated schools are affected by the closure.
