Cognita has acquired Ranches Primary School in Dubai, building on a series of recent takeovers and joint ventures in the United Arab Emirates’ largest city and world’s largest individual private school market.

The international schooling giant, which is backed by Jacobs Holdings, BDT Capital Partners and Sofina, did not specify in its press release from whom or what institution it had acquired Ranches Primary School.

The takeover is Cognita’s first since the appointment of its new chief executive, Frank Maassen, in July, who succeeded Chris Jansen.

Earlier this year, Cognita bought Horizon English School in Dubai from Al Najah Education, expanding its footprint in the Middle East.

Commenting on the Ranches announcement, David Baldwin, managing director for Cognita Middle East, said: “Cognita is so excited to welcome Ranches Primary School into our global family. Cognita and Ranches are closely aligned, having many shared values, including the importance of character development, citizenship, wellbeing and a well-rounded educational experience.

“We look forward to working in partnership with parents, students and staff to serve its local community and take Ranches Primary School from strength to strength in the years to come.”
