Sandbox, an operating platform for digital educational products and services, has acquired teacher resource provider Teachit from charity AQA.

Teachit, founded in 1999, serves a community of over 550,000 primary and secondary teachers across the UK and has a library of 18,000 learning resources, available to teachers through subscriptions.

The acquisition will drive international growth and allow collaboration between the Teachit and Sandbox’s existing US-based teacher resource business, TeacherVision.

Sandbox said it hopes this will strengthen the company’s market presence globally to serve over two million teachers in the UK and the US with online tools and resouces, making the most of the fast-growing e-learning market estimated to be worth $342 billion by 2025.

Bhav Singh, chief executive and founder at Sandbox said: “As the global population grows and the need for quality education becomes more widespread, the demand for teachers is expected to go up in tandem. We are building a global platform to provide teachers with the digital resources to thrive in this dynamic new environment.”

Sandbox has a portfolio of 10 digital learning products and services, including FamilyEducation, Fact Monster and Infoplease. It calls itself a “millennial education company” and says it serves over 50 million families and children.
