Horizon Capital-backed Juniper Education today announced it has acquired Jane Systems, an education human resources and payroll software provider.

Jane Systems supplies products to hundreds of multi-academy trusts and schools in the UK, and supports the processing of more than 75,000 payslips a month.

Gavin Freed, chairman of Juniper Education, said: “For too long, those working in education have been frustrated with having no choice but to work with generic HR solutions that do not fully meet the specific challenges of educational settings. With school leaders facing multiple staffing complexities, exacerbated by Covid-19 restrictions, having education-specific people systems means they are in a better position to offer enhanced support to their teams. The acquisition of Jane Systems is a decisive step towards our goal of enabling effective people development through a combination of first-class software and services from one specialist education provider.”

Nigel Sargent, director of Jane Systems, added: “The Jane software portfolio was designed to give trusts and school leaders a simple way to manage staff absences, wellbeing, payroll, professional development and salary, offering a better alternative to the paper-based functions that still exist in many schools and academies. To now be able to complement state-of-the-art HR and payroll tools with award-winning support services is a proposition few can offer.”

Simon Hitchcock, managing partner at Horizon Capital, said: “This is the eighth acquisition completed by Juniper Education since our investment in 2019. The addition of Jane Systems extends Juniper’s already comprehensive software and services offering, ensuring schools have a one-stop-shop for all their staffing and payroll needs.”

In November Juniper Education acquired Sisra with its Observe solution, which offers tools to support teachers’ continuing professional development.
