French nursery group La Maison Bleue today announced the acquisition of Sunhill Daycare Nurseries Group by its UK subsidiary The Old Station Nursery Group, taking its total of UK nurseries to more than 30.

The settings are located at: Stowmarket (two sites), Berkhamsted, Colchester, Fen Drayton, Peckham Rye, Royston, St Neots (two sites), Granta Park and Hemel Hempstead.

Created in 1991 by Geoff Chapman, Sunhill Daycare Nurseries Group has 11 nurseries located across the UK, with sales this year amounting to £5 million.

La Maison Bleue has more than 500 nurseries across France, Luxembourg, Switzerland and the UK. The group says it plans to make further UK acquisitions to reach 40 settings, with the objective of becoming one of the four leaders in the British market by 2021.

Sylvain Forestier, head of La Maison Bleue, said: “We are pleased to welcome the Sunhill Daycare nurseries in La Maison Bleue. With this new acquisition, we are pursuing our growth ambition and particularly in the United Kingdom, which is one of our strategic markets. This ambition reflects the excellent results of La Maison Bleue Group, as well as the confidence placed in us by our clients. La Maison Bleue is pursuing its development and intends to strongly accelerate its external growth strategy to achieve its objective of €250 million in revenue by 2021.”

The Old Station Nursery Group was established in 2002 by manging director Sarah Steel and acquired by La Maison Bleue in 2019. It had 21 nurseries prior to this acquisition, catering to 1,500 children with sales of around £8 million this year.

Steel said: “We’re really pleased to welcome each of the nurseries within the Sunhill Group. As a group, we strive to continue to innovate ways in which we provide the highest standard of learning and care to all children.”
