GS Foods Group, a food distributor owned by Highview Capital and A&M Capital Partners, has acquired K12 school foodservice distribution company, School Lunch Products (SLP), based in Shafter, California.
Established in 2009, SLP provides school districts in Shafter, California and the surrounding area with commodity and commercial products. SLP’s owner and president Mike Fackler is joining GS Foods Group’s sales leadership team.
GS Foods is based in Carlsbad, California and encompasses a group of foodservice distribution companies including Gold Star Foods, which caters to 4,300 K12 schools in more than 1,000 US school districts.
Sean Leer, chief executive of GS Foods, said: “By integrating SLP – a company that shares our mission to meet and exceed the needs of school districts – GS Foods is taking another step forward in our efforts to create a coordinated, national nutrition supply chain. We are excited to combine our deep industry experience with SLP’s operations, ultimately providing even more value and expanded opportunities to the communities they’ve served for over a decade.”
Fackler added: “GS Foods continues to grow as a national leading school nutrition and solutions provider, delivering exceptional customer service and reliably providing millions of students with meals each day. I look forward to joining this unparalleled team and helping extend our reach to benefit more communities in California and nationwide.”
Steve Russell, managing director and senior portfolio manager at Highview, commented: “GS Foods continues to illustrate its leadership and distinct capabilities in school nutrition and other specialised foodservice sectors. Continued partnerships with companies like SLP contribute to the growth of GS Foods – allowing us to bring its expertise to additional markets and build a national nutrition system for the future.”
GS Foods acquired Fresno Produce and Hayes Distributing earlier this year.
