HelioCampus, owned by Pamlico Capital, a technology services company that helps higher education institutions, has acquired benchmarking consortium ABC Insights.

The acquisition will allow the Maryland-based ed tech company to better help higher education improve its administrative and academic processes through technology, it said.

HelioCampus helps institutions with admissions, student retention and recruiting problems through its analytics platform. It provides strategic decision support and insights for institutions to grow resources and maximise their returns, it said.

HelioCampus chief executive Darren Catalano said: “Together, we aspire to become the most trusted source and advisor to higher education by helping them leverage their data to accelerate their path to financial sustainability.”

Catalano will continue to lead the combined company while ABC Insights’ founders will be taking up leadership roles at HelioCampus.

ABC Insights president and chief operating officer Steven Beisser, who will serve as vice-president of operations at HelioCampus, said: “A dedication to improving the financial sustainability of higher education by helping universities be more efficient and effective is in the DNA of both of our organisations and makes us a perfect match.”

HelioCampus’s base will remain in Maryland, with plans to grow in North Carolina.

Founded in 2015, HelioCampus was a spin-off from the University of Maryland and was bought by Pamlico Capital, a private equity firm that invests in the US, last year.
