Dallas-based private equity firm Surge Private Equity has closed an investment into All About Learning Press (AALP), a Wisconsin-based national homeschool curriculum publisher. The transaction closed with debt financing provided by Modern Bank and Spell Capital Partners.

For 16 years, AALP has developed and published a variety of proprietary and multisensory homeschooling curricula primarily targeting lower school spelling and reading.

AALP says its programmes are based on the Orton-Gillingham approach and teach through a logical sequence that leaves no gaps in the learning process for any level of skill.

Surge stated that is bringing in an experienced operator to assist founders Marie and Greg Rippel with the company’s growth.

Surge partner Tom Beauchamp said: “We are excited about the opportunity to directly invest in a meaningful company with exceptionally favourable macro trends. Marie has proven herself to be a top-tier content creator. Our partnership will free up her time to focus on writing and product development as we assist with logistical and managerial support.”

Modern Bank is a privately owned, entrepreneurial bank that provides flexible, competitive and reliable senior debt financing solutions to commercial companies. Its experienced bankers specialize in working with lower middle-market companies and owners to provide low-cost cash flow-based financing solutions.

Spell Capital Mezzanine Partners provides subordinated debt and non-control equity to businesses in a variety of industries across the US. It finances leveraged acquisitions backed by lower middle-market private equity sponsors, management and family driven ownership transitions, add-on acquisitions, recapitalisations and growth initiatives.
